A Wild Horse brings vitality and freedom in on its galloping hooves. The Salt River wild horses are historic and majestic creatures and roam freely in their 20,000-acre habitat along the lower Salt River in the Tonto National Forest, just outside of Mesa, Arizona. They travel around the lower Salt River in small bands of 20 or so horses and are protected by A.R.S 3-1491, the State law passed in 2016 for their protection. As these small bands travel on the same trails, they come together at the river. In the springtime the Stallions often battle for their Mare and to witness these two Stallions battling was incredible. This photograph was taken in February 2023.
