The Wild Horses travel around the lower salt river within the Tonto National Forest in Arizona in small bands of 20 or so horses and roam freely in their 20,000 acre habitat. As these small bands travel on the same trails, they come together at the river. They are protected by A.R.S 3-1491, the State law passed in 2016 for their protection.
