West Mitten Butte - Monument Valley

Monument Valley is a red sand desert on the Arizona-Utah border with sandstone buttes throughout.  As we were leaving the 17 mile Valley Loop Drive, we stopped to take a photograph of West Mitten Butte.  The blue sky and the varying colours of red along with the reflection in the water was breathtaking.  Several John Wayne westerns were filmed in Monument Valley including Stagecoach in 1939.
